3D printing materials
Quick rule: PLA for prototypes and decoration, PETG for functional parts, ASA for outdoor use and heat, TPU for flexible parts and resin for maximum detail.
FDM materials
PLA
PLA is the easiest and cheapest plastic to print: rigid, accurate and with a good finish.
| Max. service temperature | ≈ 55 °C |
|---|---|
| Stiffness | High |
| Impact resistance | Low–medium |
PETG
PETG is our recommended material for functional parts and spare parts: more resistant to impact and heat than PLA (≈ 75 °C), slightly flexible and fine for humidity and moderate outdoor use..
| Max. service temperature | ≈ 75 °C |
|---|---|
| Stiffness | Medium |
| Impact resistance | High |
ABS / ASA
ABS and ASA are engineering plastics for parts that face heat (≈ 95 °C) and demanding use.
| Max. service temperature | ≈ 95 °C |
|---|---|
| Stiffness | Medium–high |
| Impact resistance | High |
TPU
TPU is a flexible, rubber-like material (hardness ≈ 95A).
| Hardness | ≈ 95A (Shore) |
|---|---|
| Elasticity | High |
| Abrasion resistance | Excellent |
Resins
Standard resin
Standard resin offers maximum detail and a smooth surface, ready to prime and paint.
| Layer | 0.025–0.05 mm |
|---|---|
| Detail | Very high |
| Impact resistance | Low |
Tough resin
Tough resin combines the detail of resin with ABS-like strength: ideal for clips, snap fits, small gears and precision functional parts..
| Layer | 0.05 mm |
|---|---|
| Detail | High |
| Impact resistance | Medium–high |
Castable resin
Castable resin burns out without leaving residue, so it works as a pattern for lost-wax casting: rings, pendants and jewellery pieces..
| Layer | 0.025–0.05 mm |
|---|---|
| Detail | Very high |
| Burnout | Clean, ash-free |
